Care and Support

OneHeart Prayer Ministry

OneHeart is a prayer and encouragement ministry that meets bi-monthly to pray for the needs of our congregations, our neighborhoods and the world. We also write encouragement cards to those who are ill, experiencing grief, loss or rejoicing with new births and major life transitions and accomplishments.

OneHeart meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 12:30am in the sanctuary. The group begins with a half-hour devotional/scripture, check-in with one another, pray and write encouragement cards.

If you have a prayer request or would like to serve in this capacity please contact the office or Pastor Dona. Your prayers and needs will be passed on to OneHeart.

Congregational Care Team

Our purpose is the following:

  1. To provide spiritual care in time of Illness [both chronic and acute], emotional distress due to loss of any kind, job loss, life transitions, bereavement—death;
  2. to deepen the spiritual formation of those who participate as providers of pastoral care;
  3. support both pastor and congregation in the delivery of Christ’s care for members and visitors of Christ The King.

What is spiritual care? Spiritual care is care of the soul. In Matthew 25, Jesus says, For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I was needed clothes and you clothed, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me...the King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did or one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Spiritual care provides for the care recipients increased opportunities for socialization and worship [prayer, reading of scripture and conversations about God]. To provide opportunities to explore feelings evoked by illness, aging, loss of independence and control. The benefits to the congregation are a response to Christ’s command to “Love Our Neighbor.”

The Congregational Care Team meets the first Tuesday of every month at 1:00 pm. Pastor leads a didactic on pastoral care, and then our team has supervision with the pastor.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast

We usually meet the 2nd Saturday of each month at the church fellowship hall and enjoy a hot breakfast. The start time is 8:30am. After breakfast we have a devotional lesson and have a time of sharing and prayer for one another. We finish around 9:45am. We sometimes move the date and place so always check with the church’s weekly schedule. Come and see what God has in store for you as we men band together to support one another in our walk with Christ to make a difference in our world.

Hospitality

Hospitality is one of the spiritual gifts. The Bible tells us that every believer is given at least one spiritual gift for the purpose of building up God’s church and serving the body of Christ. In other words, our gifts are given not for our own benefit, but for the enrichment of others. We should be serving those around us, including the body of believers, family and friends.

At Christ the King, hospitality is about practicing servanthood. More importantly, it is about loving others through Christ and making people feel special. The Christ the King Hospitality ministry reaches out to help members of the congregation celebrate special occasions, organize meals for the soup suppers during the Advent and Lenten church seasons, and to bring a measure of comfort to those who mourn.

Special occasions such as baptism, taking first communion, being confirmed or welcoming new families are celebrated with a reception after the 10:45 worship service. These are times for families who are attending these special occasions to join with the Christ the King family to celebrate.

When a family loses a member of their family, the hospitality team offers to provide the family and those attending the funeral with a meal and a place to share with those in attendance.
