CTK considers community outreach to be one of our most important ministries. We have many programs that provide assistance to the local community and the world.
A new outreach program for our church is The Castle, in Centerville, Ohio. The Castle is a safe haven for adults with mental disorders. People living in group homes around Dayton come to the Castle for a warm meal, a place to socialize, and assistance in learning general living and social skills.
CTK started our assistance in 2009 and we are beginning to form trusting relationships with those who visit and work there. We will be supplying, preparing, and serving a lunch once every other month for about 40 members. The Castle is also in need of clothing and toiletries which we collect and deliver. The Castle Website is www.friendsofthecastle.com.
Working with Graceworks, CTK supports local families at special times each year. Graceworks provides the names of 2-3 families in need and CTK then coordinates and organizes assistance to them. We gather a list of needs for each family and ask the congregation for donations. Using those resources, along with supplies from our food pantry, we are able to help provide God’s kind and loving touch to those who are less fortunate. The events we sponsor are:
Easter - Food for an Easter meal, gifts from the pantry, and special Easter baskets for the children.
Back-to School – School clothes and school supplies.
Thanksgiving – Food for a Thanksgiving meal and gifts from the pantry.
Christmas - Food for a Christmas dinner, gifts for each person in the family, and gifts from the pantry.
CTK has had a long-standing relationship with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dayton and their assistance to the homeless. About 3 times each year we provide a lunch meal for about 170 people hosted at St. Paul’s. The congregation bakes brownies, prepares the meal and then serves it. Hunger is a big issue in our community and our assistance is greatly needed and appreciated.
Our church maintains a food pantry which is used to help individuals and families with daily subsistence. The pantry is well stocked with things like canned fruits and vegetables, cereals, spaghetti, juices, and various other daily staples. Local individuals and families contact the church through a phone call and an appointment is set up for pick-up of the pre-bagged items. The pantry is also used as a food supplement for our Adopt-A-Family events.
